2^nd June 2008 / Monday

It’s the start of second week. I feel more anticipating towards each day of work now because I am doing something new from the NUSS project which I think is very interesting and challenging. At 9am the weekly meeting starts, the first time I reported the progress of the project in hand. The 2^nd draft of layout plan was out and the children centre has to re-adjust the space planning so that I can send the AutoCAD files to Daphne of Play point Pte Ltd to plan the playground and soft play area. After the meeting, we discuss our design for each space with Greg, the manager director to come out with improvement for the layout and design.

Greg gave us quite a few pointers and other requirements to follow as the project was under budget. Some of our design have to change and kept simple due to low budget. I’ve learnt that graphic walls are cheaper than wallpaper. Even though there are budget constrain, there are other areas to play around with like lightings, flooring and colour scheme. We got a lot of feedbacks and comments on the 2^nd draft and after the discussion we proceed to make changes to the layout and design. After making the final changes, I sent the AutoCAD files to Daphne and I continue to find furniture, flooring and furnishes that are suitable for the sports bar and games room. Now, my design concept is much clearer and better compared to the initial one.

Tomorrow will continue to find more material options concept images for the three areas and helped Ek to do some elevation cadding for his project. That is all for today.

3^rd June 2008 / Tuesday

In the morning, Ek gave us some elevation drawings to draw on AutoCAD. For me, he gave me the elevations for the powder room of his project (an expanded residential building at cable road) the building was expanded from a conservation building and the whole building was to be redesigned and yet remain the existing structure of the building.

The whole day was spent on the computer with cad drawings. Tomorrow will be going with Jaes to PCC (Parkway cancer centre) for meeting and site visit.

4^th June 2008 / Wednesday

At 830am, Jaes drove me from the office to the PCC site. On the car, she gave me a brief introduction on the meeting and the project. The meeting was for the PCC 2 which was the 1^st to be constructed. PCC 1 and PCC 3 are still in the initial design stage.

As we reached early, we went over to the site first to take a look at the progress of construction. There was some problem with the lightings position and Jaes have to decide on the spot the nest best position to put the lightings. I think sometimes designers have to make quick and decisive decision.

After that, we went over to the office for the meeting. The meeting was much of a smaller scale compared to the NUSS meeting I went last week. Nevertheless, the content and layout of the meeting was almost the same. Through the meeting I learnt that sometimes designers have to deal with political problems from different projects. Interior designers have to deal with relationship of different people like project manager, client, contractor and even the workers. It’s always good to keep a good relationship with them because they are the one who will help the project to run smoothly and meet the EOT.

After the meeting, we continue with the site visit and test the furniture, check on power points for AV. In the afternoon, I continued to help Ek to do the elevations. Tomorrow, Chiew Hua will be having dental appointment so I will alone in the office. I should be helping Ek with more elevation drawings of other areas of the building.

After work, i head over to NAFA for the fashion grad show 2008. Jerry managed to secure tickets for us. I met up with eileen, lilin and kaili. The fashion show was very grand so much grander than the 3D grad show.

5^th June 2008 / Thursday ( BEST DAY!!)

Today is my first time working alone. I felt more relaxing. I went to ask Ek whether he needs help in the elevation again and he told me to edit the elevation for the master bathroom. For the whole day, I was helping Ek with his project on the Cable Road residential building. It’s much peaceful working alone and the designers in the office are actually all very approachable and friendly. I am able to consult them whenever I got problems with my project in hand. The material libraries they have are very useful. I got to learn a lot on details and specification of different materials.

After work, i went to meet the signals gang at The Central for dinner as weifeng and wenhao is back respectively from their "missionaries"..Seems like I went The Central for many times already. This time we went to the Riverside Indonesian Restaurant. The food was quite cheap and nice with free flow of RICE..lol but the waiting time was a bit long..After that, we meet chunhoo at Starbucks for coffee before heading home.

6^th June 2008 / Friday

It comes to the end of the second week of internship and I have learned a lot through site visits and through the different helpful designers and colleagues. Each has their own interesting experiences to tell.

We continued to work on the NUSS project today. I searched for more concept images and graphics for my sports bar, reading room and children center. I also searched for more alternatives furniture and materials for the different areas. I made some amendments for my design also after discussing with Marcus on the concept and layout. He told me to make the bar more lie a bar than a restaurant . He also recommended some suppliers of outdoor fabrics for my furniture.

Next week, we will be having our third meeting and should be continuing to improve on the NUSS project. I need to contact Daphne for the proposal of the children center also.

After work, i met up with Lilin and Eileen for dinner. It's Friday and we should have entertainment on Friday!! Lilin and me went over to Eileen's workplace at Little India for dinner. After that we went for window shopping at Bugis before ending with dessert at Vernezia Ice-cream..=) Satisfied. Eileen have booked tickets for our one week Double K trip ( KL and Krabi). So looking forward to 5th July already..=D After that on 12th i will also be GET HIGH at Gary's Welcome to My World Concert!! Wooo!!..
